How we work
Chimney work has a reputation problem, and it is mostly earned. Plenty of companies sell a cheap sweep, find an emergency once they are on the roof, and quote a number designed to be agreed to on the spot while the homeowner is worried.
That is not how this works. We quote the sweep before we arrive. If we find something, we photograph it and show you, explain what it means and what happens if it is left, and give you a price. Then we leave you to think about it. Real problems are still real problems next week.
What you can expect
Drop cloths down before any tool comes out. A HEPA vacuum running the whole time. The full flue swept, not just the first few feet within reach. A look at the cap, crown, flashing, liner, smoke chamber, damper and firebox. And a written summary with photographs so you have a record of the condition of the chimney year to year.
If the honest answer is that your chimney is fine and does not need anything, that is what you will hear.

We cover the room
Drop cloths over the hearth and the floor in front of it before any tool comes out of the van.

We sweep the flue
Rotary brushes and rods the full length, plus the smoke chamber, smoke shelf and firebox, with the HEPA vacuum running throughout.

We inspect and photograph
Cap, crown, flashing, liner, damper and firebox all get looked at. Anything that needs attention gets photographed.

We tell you what we found
In plain terms, with the photos, and with a price for anything that needs doing. No pressure to book it on the spot.

Not every chimney needs work every year
If you burn half a dozen fires a winter with well-seasoned wood, you may not have much creosote at all. You still want it looked at annually — but looked at is not the same as worked on, and we will say so.
A cheap sweep is often not a sweep
The very low advertised prices usually cover the first few feet of flue and a quick look. The number goes up once someone is on your roof. Ours does not.
Water does more damage than fire
Chimney fires are dramatic and rare. Water is slow, constant and by far the most expensive thing that happens to a masonry stack in this climate. A cap and a sound crown prevent most of it.
Urgency is a sales tactic
If someone tells you the chimney is unsafe and needs thousands of dollars of work today, get a second opinion. A genuine hazard is still a genuine hazard next week, and any honest sweep will tell you to go and check.
The kit
What comes off the van.
Rotary sweeping rods with poly and wire heads for different liner types, a HEPA filtered vacuum that runs for the whole visit, drop cloths for the hearth and the floor in front of it, an inspection camera for looking down the flue where a mirror will not reach, and enough ladder to reach a two storey roof safely.
None of that is exotic. It is what the job actually requires, and it is the difference between a chimney that has been swept and a chimney that has been poked at from the living room.
