Chimney sweep in Republic, Missouri.
West on 60, about twenty minutes from the shop.
What we see in Republic
Fast-growing, heavily newer construction. Prefabricated fireplaces dominate, and most need cap and chase cover attention before liner work.
Whatever the chimney is, the annual job is the same: sweep the flue, look at the cap, crown, flashing, liner and damper, and tell you plainly what needs doing. Drop cloths go down first and the HEPA vacuum runs the whole time, so there is nothing to clean up after we leave.
Work in Republic is generally scheduled alongside other jobs in the same direction, so it is worth calling early in the season if you want a particular week.
When to book
Timing matters more
than people think.
Chimney work is seasonal, and Republic is no different. The earlier in the year you call, the more choice you have.
- Spring & summerThe quiet months, and the best time to book. Creosote smells worst in humid weather, and any masonry repair wants dry, warm days to cure properly.
- September & OctoberThe rush. Everyone remembers the chimney the week it turns cold. Book before the first frost if you want a choice of dates.
- November to FebruaryPeak burning season. We still take calls, but the diary is tight and emergencies come first.
Questions
Common questions
How often should a chimney be swept?
Once a year for anything you burn regularly, or after about 80 fires — whichever comes first. If you burn unseasoned wood, or you run a wood stove as your main heat source, you may need it twice a season. Gas fireplaces still need an annual inspection even though they produce almost no creosote.
How long does a sweep take?
A straightforward single-flue sweep and Level 1 inspection is usually about an hour. Add time if there are multiple flues, heavy glazed creosote, or an animal nest to remove.
Is it going to make a mess in my house?
No. Drop cloths go down before anything else, and a HEPA vacuum runs the entire time we are working. Soot stays in the vacuum, not on your floor.
When do I need a Level 2 inspection?
When a house is being bought or sold, after a chimney fire or any event that could have damaged the structure, and any time you change what the chimney vents — a new liner, a new appliance, or a switch from wood to gas.
